vinwAIve | Wine Cost of Production and Margin Software

![Vineyard rows at a premium wine estate at sunrise](https://www.intelliwaive.com/hs-fs/hubfs/vinwaive-hero-cinematic.webp?width=1821&height=864&name=vinwaive-hero-cinematic.webp)

AI-powered decisions, from block to bottle

# Your estate is leaving margin in the vineyard. You just can't see where yet.

vinwAIve is an AI platform built for the wine industry that pinpoints where margin is hiding across demand, supply, yield and harvest. It transforms how your whole team collaborates, uncovers insights and acts before vintage, while there is still time to change the outcome.

[Let's talk →](https://www.intelliwaive.com/contact?hsLang=en) [See what it does](https://www.intelliwaive.com/vinwaive#ladder)

**In-season**

Financial and operational visibility, not post-vintage reports

**Section-level**

Precision by block, not estate averages

**One platform**

Yield, operations, financials and inventory connected

**Ask anything**

An AI analyst grounded in your actual estate data

Your production system records what happened in the cellar. Your accountant reports the entity after the period. **Neither of them knows what a block costs to farm, or what margin a single wine carries.** vinwAIve is the platform that joins them.

Which sections are more than ten per cent below target?Rank my wines by gross market profit per 9LE.What does this wine actually cost me?Where do I have a supply deficit against demand?Which property is dragging estate margin down? What happens to profit if the market pays five per cent less?Which blocks deserve another dollar next season?Set the target bunch weight for Pinot Noir to 130 grams.Which sections are more than ten per cent below target?Rank my wines by gross market profit per 9LE.What does this wine actually cost me?Where do I have a supply deficit against demand?Which property is dragging estate margin down? What happens to profit if the market pays five per cent less?Which blocks deserve another dollar next season?Set the target bunch weight for Pinot Noir to 130 grams.

**vinwAIve is wine cost of production and margin software.** It connects vineyard, winery, packaging, cost and sales data into one live model, then calculates what every wine costs to produce and what margin it carries, per nine litre equivalent, per wine product.

It is built AI-first for wine businesses in Australia and New Zealand that grow fruit and make wine, and it works during the vintage rather than after it, so the numbers can still change the outcome.

The cost of not knowing

## The question is simple. Answering it takes three weeks and a spreadsheet nobody trusts.

In a growth market you can absorb not knowing where margin sits. In a market with oversupply, soft bulk pricing and rising input costs, that gap decides whether you restructure deliberately or find out in the audit.

01

### Blocks that lose money keep getting farmed

A respectable estate average can hide a wide gross profit spread between your best and worst sections. Averages do not reveal the problem, they bury it, and then you spend another season of labour, water and inputs on it.

02

### Wines that lose money keep getting made

Volume leaders are not always margin leaders. Without a cost of production per 9LE built from real inputs, allocation, blending and pricing decisions run on instinct and last year's standard cost.

03

### Two moving ranges, multiplied together

Production cost swings on one set of variables. Revenue swings on a completely different set. Multiplying two wide, moving ranges together is why a snapshot taken once a year cannot be trusted, and why a system that records the past cannot answer a forward question.

Thirty four sections. One estate average. The two do not tell the same story.

The margin ladder

## Real cost against target cost, continuously, every rung.

Working out the true cost per bottle of wine is the part neither a production system nor an accounting system is built to carry. vinwAIve assembles a cost of production from the ground up, adds the cost of reaching the market, applies your channel-weighted price, and reports every rung per nine litre equivalent, per wine product.

Variance is measured against the target gross profit for that wine's quality tier, so an icon wine and a premium wine are each judged against their own standard rather than a blended estate number.

One connected model

## One spine, from the block to the bottle to the ledger.

vinwAIve replaces the spreadsheets, vineyard management tools and disconnected reports most wine businesses run on. Yield, harvest, supply, demand, production cost, packaging, sales and margin share a single structure, so a change to one input is reflected everywhere it applies. Editable fields sit in one place, everything else is a read only roll up, and clicking a linked figure takes you to the field that owns it.

Section intelligence

### The sections that need you this week, ranked

Every section traffic lighted against its yield target or its cost per tonne target: on or above, ten per cent or more off, fifteen per cent or more off. Filter by vineyard, variety, clone, category, quality tier or wine product.

Yield and harvest

### Forecasts that stay current without a rebuild

Field scored samples per section by growth stage, entered from a phone in the rows by a user with narrow permissions, landing as a draft for the editor to post. Auto dated, auto authored, and any edit carries a note.

Supply and demand

### Know the shortfall before the fruit arrives

Supply against demand by wine product in tonnes and 9LE, with surplus and deficit flagged per product and carried in an alert ribbon across every screen, so a deficit follows you around the platform.

Scenarios

### Know the consequence before you commit

Pull levers on yield, area planted, cost per hectare, sell price, demand volume and category mix, across the estate or a filtered subset, and watch tonnes, revenue, opex and gross profit recompute against your baseline. Save and recall a scenario.

Multi vintage

### Run this one. Plan the next. Learn from the last.

Move the current vintage through its stages, close it off, lock it, and promote the next. Year on year comparison of yield, tonnes and targets by vineyard or by variety.

Multi property

### Every property and section, side by side

One view across all vineyards with section level detail on demand. Group by property, variety, category or quality tier. Unlimited sections on every plan, because sections are never a pricing metric.

![Vineyard at dusk](https://www.intelliwaive.com/hs-fs/hubfs/vinwaive-vineyard-dusk.jpg?width=1920&height=1192&name=vinwaive-vineyard-dusk.jpg)

Built with wine businesses

## Built alongside real vineyards and wineries, not workshopped in a boardroom.

The cost model came out of actual harvests, cellars and contract packing runs across Australia and New Zealand, which is why it survives contact with a real winery.

[Meet the founders →](https://www.intelliwaive.com/about?hsLang=en)[Book a demo](https://www.intelliwaive.com/contact?hsLang=en)

Ask vinwAIve

## AI-native, not a chatbot bolted on.

vinwAIve was built AI-first, which means the analyst reads the same approved model everyone else in the business reads. The answer does not depend on whose spreadsheet was opened.

Ask in plain language across yield, cost, allocation and margin. On instruction, and inside your permission settings, it can also make the change, for example setting a target bunch weight across a variety for the current vintage, with the edit dated and attributed like any other.

Answers are grounded in your own vintage data and badged as such. An optional web search asks you to confirm before it leaves your data. Like any analyst it can be wrong, and the platform says so, which is why every figure it returns can be opened in the screen that owns it.

One model, one answer, whoever is asking.

How the numbers stay trustworthy

## The most recent figure is not enough. It has to be the approved figure.

A margin number is only worth having if a CFO will sign it and a board will act on it. vinwAIve was built around that constraint rather than retrofitted to it.

Formula register

### Every formula in the model is registered

Stored in one place, editable, auditable and able to be refreshed across the model at any time, so the logic behind a number is something you can inspect rather than something you have to trust.

One editable surface

### One place a number can change

Editable fields are colour coded and confined to a single area. Everything else is a read only roll up. Click a linked figure and you land on the field that owns it.

Draft, posted, locked

### Data moves through states, with names attached

Field entries arrive as drafts and are posted by a permitted user. Every entry is dated and authored automatically, and every edit carries a note explaining it.

Closed vintages

### A vintage closes and stays closed

Completed vintages are closed off and locked. Only a master administrator can unlock one to make a correction, so last year's numbers cannot quietly drift.

Permissions

### Everyone sees their own depth of the same truth

Templated roles a master administrator can edit, multiple permission sets per user, and a login log. A viticulturist can enter yield without seeing company financials. Directors and advisors get read only access.

Data quality

### The platform tells you what is missing

A standing report identifies data that is disconnected or incomplete, so you can see where the model is thin rather than discovering it inside a number you have already quoted.

Platform security, hosting and data governance are handled at the intelliwAIve level, and we will walk your technology lead or your auditor through the architecture on request. Your data is yours, and we will put that in writing before you share any of it.

At the market

The language of wine margin

## What the numbers mean, in plain terms.

Wine costing has its own vocabulary and most of it is used loosely. These are the definitions vinwAIve works to, and the ones we will use in any conversation about your numbers.

Nine litre equivalent9LE

The international standard unit for wine volume. One 9LE is nine litres of finished wine, or twelve 750 millilitre bottles. Reporting cost and margin per 9LE lets you compare wines across different pack formats on the same basis.

Cost of productionCOP

Everything it costs to have finished wine ready to sell: grape cost, winemaking cost including oak ageing, an itemised packaging bill of materials, and supply chain cost. Expressed per 9LE, per wine product, built up from real inputs rather than a standard cost.

Cost to marketCTM

What it costs to get the finished wine sold and delivered, including the cost of serving each channel. Added to cost of production, it gives the total cost of a wine.

Gross production profitGPP

Revenue less cost of production. What a wine earns before the cost of reaching the market is taken into account, measured against the target gross profit for that wine's quality tier.

Gross market profitGMP

Gross production profit less cost to market. What the wine actually earns once it has been sold, which is usually the first number that changes an owner's mind about a product.

Net profitNP

Gross market profit less allocated overheads, per 9LE, per wine product. The bottom rung of the margin ladder and the figure a board will act on.

Recovery

The conversion from tonnes of fruit to litres of wine to nine litre equivalents. Recovery assumptions drive both the supply model and the cost per 9LE, which is why getting them right matters more than almost any other input.

Quality tier

The commercial band a wine sits in, from icon through super premium and premium. Each tier carries its own target gross profit, so performance is judged against the standard that wine should meet rather than an estate average.

Which plan fits

## From cultivation to craft to commerce.

Plans are cumulative and defined by how far vinwAIve extends across your value chain. Pricing reflects the scale of your operation and is reviewed at renewal. Grow is based on hectares under vine, Create on average litres produced for sale across the previous three vintages, and Sell on average 9LE produced across the previous three vintages. Every plan includes unlimited standard users, unlimited vineyard sections and available standard connectors within the agreed implementation scope.

Start here

## The Margin Baseline

Adopting something new should lower your risk, not add to it. So do not start with a licence. Start with your own numbers.

We take your last complete vintage and model it through to gross market profit per 9LE, per wine product, using your own vineyard, production, packaging and sales data. You get a margin map of your business, a data readiness assessment, and a findings session with your owner and your finance lead.

Fixed fee, fixed scope, six to eight weeks. The fee is credited in full against a first year licence taken within ninety days. If you decide not to proceed, you keep the model and the findings.

What you get

### Your vintage, modelled

Cost of production per 9LE for every wine product you make, built from your grape, winemaking, packaging and supply chain costs rather than a standard cost.

### Your wines, ranked

Every wine product ranked by gross production profit and gross market profit against the target for its quality tier, with the spread made explicit.

### Your blocks, ranked

Every section ranked on cost per tonne and yield against target, and mapped to the wine it feeds.

### An honest read on your data

What is connected, what is missing, and what it would take to keep the model live through a vintage.

Every seat at the table

## One model. Six different questions answered from it.

Owner and CEO

### Where are we making and losing money?

Margin by wine product, block, variety and quality tier, with the ability to drill from the estate to a single section in seconds, and to model the consequence before committing.

CFO and finance

### Can I sign this number?

A cost of production built from real inputs rather than a standard cost, with a formula register, posting attribution and locked vintages behind it. A cost per bottle you can explain.

General manager

### What needs me this week?

Traffic light rankings that set the week's priorities without a meeting, and one place where a yield problem, a cost problem and a supply deficit are visible together.

Winemaker

### Do I have the right fruit?

Supply against demand by wine product before the fruit arrives, with surplus and deficit flagged per product, so allocation and blending decisions are made with the shortfall visible.

Viticulturist

### Are my targets real?

Field entry from a phone in the rows in seconds, and section targets set from what that section actually delivered before rather than from an estate average.

Board and advisors

### Where are we exposed?

Read only access for directors and advisors to vintage trajectory, supply risk and margin drivers, from the same model the executive team runs on.

Common questions

## Wine cost, margin and platform questions, answered.

### What does it cost to produce a bottle of wine?

The cost of producing a bottle of wine is the sum of growing the fruit, making the wine, packaging it and moving it, expressed per unit of finished wine. vinwAIve calculates this as a cost of production per nine litre equivalent by building it up from the vineyard section forward: grape cost, winemaking cost including oak ageing, an itemised packaging bill of materials, and supply chain cost. Most producers rely on a standard cost that has not been revisited in several vintages, which is why the real figure often differs substantially from the assumed one.

### What is a 9LE, or nine litre equivalent?

A nine litre equivalent, written 9LE, is the international standard unit for wine volume and equals nine litres of finished wine, or twelve 750 millilitre bottles. It is the unit wine businesses use to compare volume, cost and margin across different pack formats. vinwAIve reports every cost and margin figure per 9LE, per wine product, so an icon wine and a commercial wine can be compared on the same basis.

### What is vinwAIve?

vinwAIve is an AI-native platform for the wine industry that connects vineyard, winery, packaging, cost and sales data into one live model. It carries a cost from a named vineyard section through to margin on a named wine product, and it does this during the vintage rather than after it, so decisions about allocation, pricing, harvest and investment can still change the outcome. It is the first platform built by intelliwAIve.

### How does vinwAIve calculate wine margin?

vinwAIve runs a four rung margin ladder per nine litre equivalent, per wine product. Revenue less cost of production gives gross production profit. Less cost to market gives gross market profit. Less allocated overheads gives net profit. Each rung is measured against the target gross profit for that wine's quality tier, so performance is judged against the standard that wine should meet rather than a blended estate average.

### Does vinwAIve replace our winery production system?

No. Your production system, whether that is Vintrace, Vinsight, InnoVint or another, remains your record of what happened in the cellar. vinwAIve sits above it and holds the cost and margin model that turns cellar activity into a cost per 9LE. There is no rip and replace, and no requirement to migrate off a system you have already implemented.

### How is vinwAIve different from vineyard management software?

Vineyard management software records activity in the rows and generally stops at the weighbridge. vinwAIve carries the economics forward from there, joining block level farming cost to the wine product that block feeds and the margin that wine earns. It is closer to a unit economics engine for a wine business than to an agronomy tool, which is why the buyer is usually the owner or the finance lead rather than the viticulturist.

### What is Ask vinwAIve, and can it be trusted?

Ask vinwAIve is a natural language analyst grounded in your own vintage data. Because vinwAIve was built AI-first, it reads the same approved model everyone else in the business reads, so the answer does not depend on whose spreadsheet was opened. Answers are badged with the data they came from, and any figure can be opened in the screen and formula that produced it. Inside your permission settings it can also make changes on instruction, with every edit dated and attributed.

"text" : "The cost of producing a bottle of wine is the sum of growing the fruit, making the wine, packaging it and moving it, expressed per unit of finished wine. vinwAIve calculates this as a cost of production per nine litre equivalent by building it up from the vineyard section forward: grape cost, winemaking cost including oak ageing, an itemised packaging bill of materials, and supply chain cost. Most producers rely on a standard cost that has not been revisited in several vintages, which is why the real figure often differs substantially from the assumed one."

It is the unit wine businesses use to compare volume, cost and margin across different pack formats. vinwAIve reports every cost and margin figure per 9LE, per wine product, so an icon wine and a commercial wine can be compared on the same basis."

It carries a cost from a named vineyard section through to margin on a named wine product, and it does this during the vintage rather than after it, so decisions about allocation, pricing, harvest and investment can still change the outcome. It is the first platform built by intelliwAIve."

Less cost to market gives gross market profit. Less allocated overheads gives net profit. Each rung is measured against the target gross profit for that wine's quality tier, so performance is judged against the standard that wine should meet rather than a blended estate average."

There is no rip and replace, and no requirement to migrate off a system you have already implemented."

It is closer to a unit economics engine for a wine business than to an agronomy tool, which is why the buyer is usually the owner or the finance lead rather than the viticulturist."

Inside your permission settings it can also make changes on instruction, with every edit dated and attributed."
